    Seminar

Topology, groups and representations,   Dr. Alejandro Adem,   University of British Columbia and President of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada,  Sat, 8 June, 2024,   2:00 p.m. NCN II A-211

    Abstract

As part of the Algebraic structures in topology in San Juan, PR conference series, this June 8 at 2:00pm we will have an event open to the general public at the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras. The event, titled Topology in mathematics and beyond, will consist of two plenary talks accessible to a general academic audience on the role of geometric and topological thinking within and outside of mathematics. There will be content for everyone and everyone is welcome. The speakers will be Alejandro Adem and Robert Ghrist. Alejandro Adem is the president of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (the equivalent of the NSF in Canada). He is Mexican and works in geometric and algebraic topology and group theory. Robert Ghrist is a professor of mathematics and electrical and systems engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on applications of algebraic topology in different areas of engineering and science. See announcement
